We now have a great opportunity for a Consultant Anaesthetist to join a leading Shepton Mallet hospital and world-class service for elective healthcare, with a particular focus on orthopaedics, ophthalmology, ENT, urology and gynaecology.

Rated fully “Good” by the CQC in 2023, this hospital plays an active role in planned health services for NHS, self-funded, and insured patients from each corner of the South West; ingrained is a strongly patient-centred culture and high standards of safety, with strict clinical governance initiatives leading to a 100% clean record for HAIs. The surgical team in particular achieves adjusted PROMs consistently better than the national average, as well as length-of-stay averages for both hip and knee surgery significantly below 2 days, and is continuing to develop their same-day discharge arthroplasty pathways through the enhanced recovery programme.

As a Consultant Anaesthetist, you will work closely alongside Consultants across electives, with a primary focus on orthopaedics, to treat and care for patients who require responsive, clinically excellent anaesthetic care, taking advantage of keenly modern facilities and the latest in medical technologies. This will also involve providing expert clinical opinion during the pre-operative assessment stage, as well as contributing to the development of Clinical Quality Standards and audit/clinical governance initiatives; no ICU/emergency/trauma cases are expected. And, very much part of a national medical network, you will be supported to take your career and learning in the direction you wish to go.

This is a permanent, full-time position over the working week; 4 days to be spent in practice, with the fifth day fixed and for your own professional use. Part-time can also be considered.
